Nakanojo Biennale 2017, Nakanojo, Japan
Doors and a bonnet from scrapped vehicles were used to play back sounds recorded in the street outside of the space.
The sounds themselves were altered, not using computer software, but by being recorded inside or through various objects in the street, such as inside an empty sake bottle or through a road sign, filtering and changing them while recording.
Also attached to each door was a car lamp, which lit up only when the sound energy was strong enough. The sounds played from each part, creating a sense of movement and distance, and the lighting effect further distorted the perceived dimensions of the space.
'Everyday Emanations (Dead End)'
This second iteration of my sound and light project, 'Everyday Emanations' was shown as part of the Nakanojo Biennale 2017 in Gunma Prefecture, Japan through September and October 2017. I used transducer speakers/sound exciters, which are a type of speaker that is attached to an object. The object then emanates the sound, vibrating and amplifying it, and the material changes the sound quality and character.
