‘Extended Dimensions’ is a collaborative performance project by choreographer Park Jin Young (South Korea) and sound artist Simon Whetham (UK).

The project began during the Active Crossover: Mooste residency curated by Whetham through April and May 2015 at MoKS in Mooste, Estonia, with the artists performing together in Tartu and developing ideas with video and choreography.

The artists aim to respond to sites through sound and movement, through documentation and live action, creating work that is unique and engaging through each iteration.

Development phase @ Seoul Art Space Seogyo

The artists were given studio space at Seoul Art Space Seogyo, Seoul, Korea from 15th – 19th June 2015. Here they created a bridging piece to refer both to the project’s inception in Estonia in April 2015 and to the new site, using sound material from each location and responding to the character of the space.

‘Boundaries of Performance’ @ Soomdo

Throughout July 2015 Park Jin Young and Simon Whetham collaborated with the gallery space at Soom Island – http://soomdo.org/

This stage was subtitled the project ‘Boundaries of Performance’ with reference to the nature of the gallery space, which is characterised by possibilities of being open to the adjoining cafe and library and viewable by passers-by in the street, and also having access to spaces on the 7th floor and the roof.

Through exploring these opportunities, the artists pushed the idea of engagement with an audience, experimenting with distorting the lines between audience and performer, and performance and audience space, either by reduction or reinforcement.
